The area surrounding the large town of Baza offers numerous towns and villages that can certainly bring your dreams to life.

Let’s explore this beautiful scenic area – all these towns are within the Granada Geopark. The area embraces outside living offering the opportunity to enjoy outside activities- including- hiking, trekking, adventure buggy tours, water sports, outdoor natural spas, camping, stargazing in the Gorafe Astronomical Complex and of course taking in a fiesta or two.

Baza – the largest town in the area offering a good selection of supermarkets and high street shops- there are some fabulous restaurants and plenty of coffee shops to enjoy el fresco lunch. The local street market is held every Wednesday in Calle del Recinto. There is a wide range of stalls offering fresh and local fruit and vegetables, along with house goods and clothing.

The town hosts many fiestas throughout the year- a must visit is the Cascamorras held every September- top tip- do not wear white clothing as the main activities includes parades through the town and a lot of paint throwing. We also recommend strolling through the narrow streets and exploring the many historic plazas in town.

This whole area is a real treat for those seeking discovering, with so many archaeological sites and also boasts over 70 places of geological interest.

Caniles- is a pretty town a short drive from Baza. The local street market is held every Tuesday in Calle Finana. We highly recommend a visit to the local Vineyards- Vilaplana Wineries- you can attend a guided tour to see the handpicked grapes and processes or you can even book the facility for private functions and events. Theres even a mushroom centre- the Mycological Centre- the building is worth a visit as boasts so much character.

Zujar – another scenic village set in the mountains- the main town is set in the valley of the Jabalcon Mountain. A must mention here is a trip to the Banos de Zujar- a short drive to enjoy the natural hot waters- so therapeutic and can be enjoyed by all ages. Lake Negratin is only 8km from the town- offering water sports. The local street market is held every Saturday in the Plaza Major.

Galera- a village set on the mountain side and valley- known for the collection of cave houses. The majority of the caves have now been renovated creating characterful communities. There are craft/artisan fairs held in the plaza in front of the El Parador restaurant. The area is also steeped in historical sites- one to visit is the Necropolis of Tutugi which houses various tombs and artifacts dating from the 5th century.
